Sevai recipes | Sevai varieties | Idiyappam varieties. How to make four different sevai recipes which are not only simple and easy but is very popular in tamilnadu.
Lemon sevai, coconut sevai, pepper sevai and tomato masala sevai are the four different Sevai recipes that are shown in this post and video.
In my earlier posts, I have already posted tomato sevai, simple lemon sevai,and chicken sevai.
Sevai is one of the simplest comfort breakfast/dinner recipe opted most of the times at home. When guests arrive, I get few packets of instant fresh sevai and make either mushroom sevai or tomato masala. Its easy and also tasty.
How to make Sevai varieties 4 ways
1. Lemon sevai recipe
Lemon sevai
Ingredients
- 2 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 1/2 tsp chana dal
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 2 nos red chilli
- 1/8 cup onions chopped
- salt to taste
- 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 cups rice noodles/sevai cooked
- 1 tsp lemon juice
Instructions
- heat oil in a pan and pop in mustard seeds. add urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves and red chilli to the pan.
- also add chopped onions, salt to taste and fry until slightly brown.
- further add turmeric powder and give it a good mix.
- lastly, add cooked rice sevai, lemon juice and mix well to blend the spices with the noodles all over.
- serve hot with coconut chutney.
Lemon sevai recipe with step by step pics
1.heat oil in a pan and pop in mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves and red chillies.
2. further add chopped onions, salt and fry until slightly brown. since the cooked sevai has got salt in it. add only for the onions.
3. Additionally, turmeric powder is added and mixed well. Rice noodles/sevai is cooked and cooled. 2 cups of it is added in the pan.
4. Give it a good mix and lastly, add lemon juice. mix well.
2. Pepper sevai recipe

Ingredients
- 2 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 1/2 tsp chana dal
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 3 cloves garlic chopped
- 1/8 cup onions chopped finely
- 1 no green chilli slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- salt to taste
- 1 tbsp pepper powder
- 2 cups rice noodles/sevai cooked
Instructions
- Heat oil in a pan and crackle mustard seeds. add urad dal, chana dal, cumin seeds to it.
- Also add chopped garlic, chopped onions, green chilli slit, curry leaves and salt to taste.
- Fry for a minute or until onions are slightly brown.
- Further add pepper powder and give it a good mix.
- lastly add the cooked sevai and mix well.
Pepper sevai recipe with step by step pics
1.Heat oil in a pan and crackle mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, cumin seeds. also add chopped garlic to it.
2. Together add chopped onions, green chilli slit, curry leaves and salt for frying the onions.
3. Fry until the onions are slightly brown. add pepper powder and mix once.
4. lastly, add cooked sevai/noodles and mix well.
3. Coconut sevai recipe
Coconut sevai
Ingredients
- 2 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 1/2 tsp chana dal
- a few cashews
- a few peanuts
- 2 cups cooked sevai/rice noodles
- 1/8 cup grated coconut
- salt to taste
Instructions
- heat oil in a pan and pop in mustard seeds along with urad dal, chana dal, cashews, peanuts.
- fry for a minute.
- lastly add salt, cooked sevai and grated coconut.
- mix well until well combines.
- serve hot !

2. mix well until slightly fried. lastly, add cooked noodles and grated coconut.
3. also add a pinch of salt to taste and mix well. this dish can also be served with sugar.
4. Tomato masala sevai
Tomato masala sevai recipe
Ingredients
- 2 tsp oil
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 1/2 tsp chana dal
- 1/8 cup onions chopped
- 1/4 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1/4 cup tomato chopped
- salt to taste
- 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1/8 tsp garam masala
- 2 cups rice noodles/cooked sevai
- a few coriander leaves chopped
Instructions
- heat oil and pop in mustard seeds along with urad dal and chana dal
- further add chopped onions, ginger garlic paste and fry until slightly brown.
- furthermore, add tomatoes, salt and fry until mushy.
- to this, turmeric powder, chilli powder, garam masala is also added.
- lastly, put in the cooked noodles/sevai and mix well.
- garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with coconut chutney.
tomato masala sevai recipe with step by step pics
1.Heat oil in a pan and pop in mustard seeds. Also add chana dal, urad dal and fry for few seconds and add chopped onions. saute the onions until slightly brown in colour.
2. Finely chop the tomatoes and add them to the pan along with salt. Fry until mushy.
3. Further add chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala. Mix well.
4. lastly, add cooked sevai, mix well until well combined.
5. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
