Samai arisi pongal/little millet Pongal
Millet varieties are into the trend of healthy way cooking. Samai/ little millet has multiple times more fibre strength conpared to rice/wheat. It is also rich in Iron and diabetic friendly.
Samai Arisi pongal is healthy and filling recipe accompanied with Sambar and coconut chutney.
Wash and rinse the rice and moong dal. Cook it with salt and turmeric powder. Water to be added is 0.5:2.5. For half a cup rice which would serve 3, you need to add 2.5 cups of water. Cook to 3- 4 whistles and mash well. Keep it aside. Seasoning is one main in this recipe. Heat oil +ghee , splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns, curry leaves, finely chopped ginger and a vertically slit green chillies. Saute well and add this mixture to mashed rice. Mix well.
If the pongal is thick, add warm milk or warm water and mix well. If it is watery, give it a boil with lid open until its mushy.

Ingredients
To pressure cook
- 1/2 Cup Little millet
- 2 1/2 Tbsp Moong dal
- 1 Tsp turmeric powder
- Salt
Seasoning
- 1 Tsp Oil
- 1 Tsp Ghee
- 1 Tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 Tsp Cumin seeds
- 1 Tsp peppercorns
- 1 Large green chillies Slit vertically
- 1 Spring curry leaves
- 2 Inch Ginger Finely chopped
Instructions
- Wash and rinse the rice and moong dal. Cook it with salt, turmeric powder and 2.5 cups water. Cook to 3- 4 whistles and mash well. Keep it aside.
- Heat oil +ghee in a skillet, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds, peppercorns, curry leaves, finely chopped ginger and a vertically slit green chilly. Saute well and add this tadka to mashed rice and mix well.
