Mushroom masala is a delicious and most favorite Indian Curry made with mushrooms, onions, spices, and herbs. It is not only easy to prepare but also a very tasty Curry and a quick fix for guests. It is typically served with chappati but it even tastes good with jeera rice add any pulav either for lunch or for dinner. Here is a simple and easy mushroom Curry with step-by-step photos and a quick video recipe.

Some of the other mushroom recipes like mushroom biryani are one of the most favorite lunch box recipes for kids. There are many ways of making this mushroom Curry but this is a simpler washing that I prefer to cook on busy mornings.

This is not a creamy Curry and it is not made with coconut or any ground masala yet it is flavourful light and tasty to have with roti or paratha.

This Curry can be made in less than 30 minutes and it’s a no-fail recipe, easy to make the vegan recipe is naturally gluten-free and not free without any heavy cream. To add any variations to this curry, you can add green peas, potatoes, or palak.
Mushroom masala is one of the most enjoyed Curries at restaurants and this one is a hassle-free Curry that I often make at home.

How to make mushroom Curry

Preparing the mushrooms

Clean the mushrooms, deskin them if required, and wash them thoroughly. slice them into four pieces.

Steps to make the curry

In a hot pan add oil add finely chopped onions or crushed onions and fry till it is golden brown.

When the onions are golden brown add the ginger garlic paste, and green chili and fry until the raw smell of ginger garlic paste leaves.


Now add two chopped tomatoes and salt to taste. Fry until the tomatoes are mushy.

Close the lid and cook until the tomatoes are completely mushy and soft. add water if required.

Add turmeric powder, chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix it all together and fry until the oil leaves the masala.

Add the prepared mushrooms and fry them together with the masala for a minute.

close and cook for 10 minutes on medium heat you can see that the moisture has been left from the mushrooms and the masala is well blended with the mushrooms.

add half a cup of hot water mix it well and close cook for 10 minutes on a low flame open and mix once again cook for another two minutes. The Curry is ready to be served hot add some chopped coriander leaves and serve it hot with chapati.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2 no onions crushed
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 no green chilli chopped
  • 2 no tomatoes chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 3/4 tsp garam masala
  • 200 gms mushrooms
  • chopped corinader leaves

Instructions

  • Heat a pan add oil and fry the crushed onions until brown
  • Add ginger garlic paste and green chili and fry until the raw smell leaves
  • Add tomatoes and salt to taste and fry until tomatoes are mushy. Close cook if required.
  • Add all the spice powders and mix it together saute for a minute
  • Put in the prepared mushrooms and cook until it leaves out the moisture close cook for 10 minutes until everything blends in together
  • Cook in simmer until oil leaves out the masala.
  • Finally add chopped coriander leaves to garnish and serve it hot with roti or rice.

Notes

  • Use fresh mushrooms for the best taste
  • Cook on a low flame until oil leaves out the masala.
  • Alternatively, you can add potatoes, paneer, and peas to the curry and the process is the same
  • There is no grinding required to make this Curry if you want a heavy creamy texture, add cashew paste to it along with fresh cream which is optional.
