Millet Cookies is a healthy and trending snack idea and homemade the yummier and healthier option particularly for our kiddos. Its very easy to cook recipe and turns out awesome.millet cookies

Alternates:

  • Cerelac (as my DS loves cerelac flavor) is used in this recipe, If you do not want cerelac flavor, go with plain corn flour/milk powder.
  • I have used rava to bring in that crumbly texture in cookies. It gives a different aroma when baked. If you don’s want Rava/sooji, substitute it with millet flour itself.
  • Instead of Vanilla essence, cardamom powder can be used as substitute.

Millet Cookies ~ Millet Cerelac Cookies – Sathumaavu Cerelac Cookies Pictorial Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 180 degree Celsius.
  • Sieve all the dry ingredients and keep it ready. I have used millet flour, sathumaavu (health mix) which i prepared for my kiddo at home. Dry Ingredients are wheat flour, millet flour, baking powder and cerelac.
  • Cream butter and brown sugar until it is pale and smooth. There should not be any lumps. Also care to be taken not to melt the butter.
  • Add vanilla essence to the butter and mix well.
  • fold in the dry ingredients along with roasted rava/sooji into butter mixture little at a time.
  • Gather everything with hands without giving much pressure into a flat round of even thickness. It is fine to be little crumbled in texture.
  • Wrap them in a cling wrap and refrigerate for 10 min. We don’t want the butter to get melted.
  • Take out the dough and flatten gently to a even thickness round. thickness should be of 1/2″ minimum to get baked well. should not be too thick nor thin.
  • Cut them with cookie cutter to a shape desired. combine all leftovers, spread again and repeat the process. (Make sure to maintain the same thickness in all cookies). Arrange them in cookie bake tray. I have greased it but it not necessary. You can even use parchment sheet instead of directly baking and no greasing is required in that case.
  • Prick the cookies with fork gently so that it does not fluff up. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degree Celsius for 15 min.
  • They will be soft initially. Transfer them to a  wire rack carefully with a spatula and let it cool completely. It will harden once it cools down.
  • Store them in a airtight container.
