Kosambari recipe | carrot kosambari salad | carrot and moong dal salad with step by step photos and video recipe. simple salad that is popular in Karnataka and made during ugadi and also for ram navami. carrots and cucumber are used in this recipe. also that moong dal and green gram split is also used.
this is also called as koshambari and served for lord rama along with Panakam. other popular dishes that are popularly made for ugadi are obbattu(coconut or chana dal), lemon rice.
When i was in bangalore, My neighbour were lovely kannada family who use to give us their special dishes on all festive days. I got this kosambari from Anu and had it for first time. My mom was there with me and we both were finding out what all they had added and researching on it 😛 I still cant forget the pulao her mom prepared on a birthday party. It was so yummy. lovely days they were. 🙂 we keep sharing dishes!

Ingredients
- 2 tbsp moong dal
- 1 no carrot grated
- salt to taste
- 1/2 tsp green chilli chopped
- 1 tsp chopped coriander leaves
- 1/2 small lemon
- 2 tbsp grated coconut
Instructions
- soak moong dal in water for an hour, drain the water and add it to a mixing bowl.
- further add all the ingredients and mix well.
- tempering: heat oil and crackle mustard seeds. add the tempering to the salad.
- mix well and serve fresh.

- wash and soak moong dal in water for an hour. drain the water after an hour and add it in a mixing bowl.
- together add grated carrots, chopped green chillies, chopped coriander leaves, salt and lemon juice.
- heat oil, crackle mustard seeds, add the tempering to the salad and mix well.
- finally add freshly grated coconut and mix well. serve fresh.
