Kollu chammandhi
Horse gram is best known for its medicinal properties
I got the below information from a website,
“As it is a grain with rich amounts of proteins, vitamins and iron it is believed that it can reduce the extra fats in the body and helps to reduce weight. It is having good amounts of B-complex vitamin and proteins. It aids in purifying menstruation. Prevents and cures the arthritis. The high amount of dietary fiber present in the horse gram balances the blood pressure and sugar glucose levels”
Apart from all these, I know it’s good for one reason, when u get cold, it helps to cure it. Since it induces heat in the body, it’s known to be medicine for cold..
Whenever we cook kollu parupu, kollu rasam is complimentary! 😉 prepared with the boiled water of kollu.
Now here is the recipe of kollu chammandhi!
Soak horse gram overnight…or if u forget to soak or decide to cook it for next meal, soak it in hot water atleast for 2-3 hours.
pressure cook to 6-7 whistles. Be generous in pouring water to this before u pressure cook. Horse gram is really harder and takes time to cook . Doesn’t get easily smashed.
Meanwhile, dry roast cumin, corriander seeds and red chillies until the aroma comes out.don’t let it go dark. Powder this mixture and in the same mixie, add the boiled and smashed kollu parupu and grind it coarsely with salt as required. Don let it grind too much.!
Now take a kadai, add 2 tsp oil and crackle mustard seeds and fry chopped onions and add the coarsely grinded mixture to it and fry for few seconds until it mixes well!
That’s it!
It’s the best combination for kollu rasam!
