Horsegram thoran ~ Kollu thoran
Horsegram or Kollu is an amazing ingredient. It is highly rich in iron, calcium, and protein. Horse gram has the highest calcium content among pulses and is one of the richest vegetarian sources of protein. It is low in fat and high in carbohydrate content and one of the best ingridient for diabetic patients as it is slow in digestion.
Kollu thoran is very simple recipe and followed the traditional kerala thoran recipe. It is one of the must have recipes during winters and if your dear ones are down with cold.

Pressure cook the bean/kollu for 5-6 whistles until cooked. It should not get overcooked or at the same time, it should not get undercooked.
You can even soak the kollu for an hour and then pressure cook. In that case stop it with 4 whistles.

Strain and take the pulse. Keep it ready.
Heat oil, crackle mustard seeds, fry chopped shallots, red chilli, green chilli, curry leaves and add the cooked kollu bean.
Add salt and mix well. Let it fry in simmer until roasted slighly.
Sprinkle coconut grated and mix well. Serve hot as side dish for rice. Can be had as such also!

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Cooked horsegram
- 1 Tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/8 Cup Chopped shallots
- 1 Spring Curry leaves
- 1 No Red chilli broken
- 1 No Green chilli slit
- 1 Tbsp Grated coconut
Instructions
- Pressure cook horsegram until done
- Heat oil, crackle mustard seeds, fry shallots, curry leaves, red chilli and green chilli.
- Add cooked horsegram and salt. Fry until water evaporated and it is slightly roasted
- Switch off and add grated coconut. Mix well and serve.
