Have you wondered what the word ‘Tikka‘ means? Tikka is name of any Indian dish where pieces of meat or vegetables are marinated in a spice mixture and roasted on grill or tawa or on a coal.

I have added kashmiri chilli powder instead of red food colour which is usually added for bright colour of tikkas. increase normal chilli powder quantity if your not using kashmiri chilli powder. It is always suggested to marinate and refrigerate the tikka mixture for 3-4 hours or even overnight. But if you have short of time, quickly freeze them for 30 minutes and use it.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup curd
  • 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp kashmiri chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/8 tsp amchur powder
  • 1/8 tsp chaat masala
  • 1/8 tsp sugar
  • salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 10-15 boneless chicken pieces

Instructions

  • add fresh curd, turmeric powder, chilli powder, kashmiri chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, amchur powder, chaat masala, sugar and salt in a bowl
  • mix well until lump free. the batter must not be too thick nor too thin.
  • Put in the chicken pieces and mix again
  • mix well so that the masala is well coated in the chicken. when adding chicken, make sure you wash and drain it completely before adding. water in it may cause the batter too thin. refregerate it for 2-3 hours or freeze for 30 minutes
  • now grease a pan with oil, place all the pieces leaving gap between and let it get roasted on all sides. keep the flame low and cook on all sides.
  • when it is completely done, squeeze lemon juice and toss it to mix well.
  • serve hot with mint chutney.
