Chicken sevai is a tempting breakfast/dinner recipe with chicken and sevai/freshly made or store bought. Sevai is also known as santhagai or sandhavai .

I still remember having chicken sevai at my aunts hse. I call her Renu velima, I think it was  in my college days. It was so tasty that it clinged to my mind and from then I was thinking to try it at home. Have tried a couple of times earlier and that i wanted to capture the video reciep to help you better.

Chicken sevai video recipe 

 Chicken sandhavai /sevai recipe:

Chicken sevai

Ingredients

  • 2 packets sevai ~ 1/2 kg
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1.5 tbsp garlic chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger chopped
  • 3 no red chilli broken
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 2 large onion finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomato finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 kg chicken
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp pepper powder final garnish
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves chopped

Instructions

  •  Heat oil in a cooker, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds
  • When it splutters, add chopped garlic, chopped ginger, red chilli, curry leaves, fry for a minute till raw smell of ginger and garlic goes off.
  • Further, add chopped onions and fry for 2 minutes until onions are brown.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and fry again for 2 minutes until tomatoes are mushy
  • Futhermore, goes in turmeric powder, chilli powder, pepper powder and cumin powder. Fry for 1 minute till well blended
  • Add the finely chopped chicken pieces. season salt as required and mix well
  • Add 2 cups water and mix well. Close the cooker and cook for 5 whistles
  • Open and let it boil until the gravy is thickened. Now, add Cooked sevai /ready made sevai and mix well. 
  • Add pepper powder finally and mix again. Sprinkle coriander leaves over and mix again

Chicken idiyappam biryani – pictorial description:

  1.  Heat oil in a cooker, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds
  2. When it splutters, add chopped garlic, chopped ginger, red chilli, curry leaves, fry for a minute till raw smell of ginger and garlic goes off.
  3. Further, add chopped onions and fry for 2 minutes until onions are brown.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and fry again for 2 minutes until tomatoes are mushy
  5. Futhermore, goes in turmeric powder, chilli powder, pepper powder and cumin powder
  6. Fry for 1 minute till well blended
  7. Add the finely chopped chicken pieces. chicken sevai
  8. season salt as required and mix well
  9. Add 2 cups water and mix wellchicken sevai
  10. Close the cooker and cook for 5 whistleschicken sevai
  11. Open and let it boil until the gravy is thickenedchicken sevai
  12. Now, add Cooked sevai /ready made sevai and mix wellchicken sevai
  13. Add pepper powder finally and mix again
  14. Sprinkle coriander leaves over and mix againchicken sevai
  15. Serve hot with coconut chutney
