Carrot Khichdi Recipe | khichdi recipe for babies & toddlers with detailed photos and video recipe. khichdi is one of the first baby solid foods that one will tend to try. carrots being most important vegetable for babies, I prefer making this carrot khichdi at least once or twice a week for my son.
along with carrots, we can also add sweet pumpkin, pumpkin, or any other vegetables. Just 1 or two vegetable which you have tested with your baby. choose vegetables that is mashable. vegetables like beans, drumstick cannot be mashed completely and may cause choke.
In this recipe, i have not mashed the rice so much as my son is now 2 years plus and can eat solids. If for babies, mash it well. DO NOT GRIND THE FOOD after cooking. this was suggested by a doctor not to grind the food after cooking. mash it well with masher or with your hands.
Not only for kids, adults can also have. I love this khichdi recipe very much. whenever my husband does not turn up for lunch, it is khichdi for me and my son. we both love it. i make it mildly spiced, sometimes very little spicy so that he takes it comfortably.

Ingredients
- 1 cup rice
- 1/4 cup tur dal
- 2 tsp ghee
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 10-15 nos shallots
- 1 large tomato
- 2 no carrots sliced
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1 pinch asafoetida
Instructions
- wash and soak rice and dal in water for 30 minutes
- Heat ghee in a pressure cooker, splutter mustard seeds, cumin seeds. Add curry leaves, chopped shallots, chopped tomatoes
- Add sliced carrot to it
- fry for 2 minutes in medium flame.
- Add the soaked rice to this. add turmeric powder, chilli powder and salt needed
- Add water in 1:4 ratio
- Close and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles. If making it for babies, cook for more whistles. Open and mash it well
- serve warm with a dash of ghee.

- Add sliced carrot to it
- fry for 2 minutes in medium flame.
- Add the soaked rice to this
- add turmeric powder, chilli powder, asafoetida and salt needed
- Add water in 1:4 ratio
- Close and pressure cook for 4-5 whistles. If making it for babies, add 5 glass water and cook for more whistles.
- Open and mash it well
- serve warm with a dash of ghee.
