With the ready made sevai packet available these days, its very easy to prepare the breakfast and dinner. It stays good for 3 days if refrigerated. Just steam the sevai in idly pan before using it in the recipe.
Thakkali sevai recipe is simple and easy to cook and is also sometimes called as masala sevai. there are few other versions of sevai which are lemon sevai and chicken sevai recipe. you can cook any number of recipes with the sevai altering the flavours and vegetables you like. It is best when served with simple coconut chutney or red coconut onion chutney and onion tomato chilli chutney.

Ingredients
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal split
- 1 tsp chana dal
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 1 large onion finely chopped
- 1 large tomato finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- salt to taste
- 1/4 cup grated coconut
Instructions
- heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds. add urad dal and chana dal to the oil. when it changes colour, add curry leaves and chopped onions.
- Saute for 1 minute until onions are pink
- add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt for frying. fry for 2 minutes until tomatoes are slightly mushy
- add water and mix well. close and cook until tomatoes are cooked well.
- open and mix again. add salt for onions and sevai.
- drop in cooked sevai. mix thoroughly until sevai is well mixed with tomato mixture.
- sprinkle grated coconut and mix again. enjoy tomato sevai with coconut chutney

- add chopped tomatoes to it
- time to add spice powders – turmeric powder
- add chilli powder,
- add salt for frying
- fry for 2 minutes until tomatoes are slightly mushy
- add water and mix well
- close and cook until tomatoes are cooked well.
- open and mix again
- add salt for onions and adjust based on the salt in the sevai. taste the sevai since the ready sevai is mildly salted, you will need to add accordingly.
- drop in cooked sevai.
- mix thoroughly until sevai is well mixed with tomato mixture.
- sprinkle grated coconut and mix again.
- enjoy tomato sevai with coconut chutney
