Chow Chow kootu
Chow Chow is one kind of veggie which not everyone will like. My moms this version of kootu will just be awesome with hot rice that too mixed with little ghee 🙂 mouth watering.. Goes well with rotis also. Find below the step by step recipe below.
1. Boil Kadala paruppu(Bengal gram) and keep it aside
2. Cut chow chow into cubes and keep it aside
3. Heat Oil in Cooker, add mustard seeds and let it splutter. Add cumin seeds to it and saute.
4. Add Red chilli, curry leaves, Chopped small onions, and Chopped garlic
5. Saute well and once onions turn pink, add tomatoes an saute well.
6. Add chow chow & boiled parupu
7. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and sambar powder
8. Add Little water and cook it to 3-4 whistles
9. Open it and smash well
10. Seasoning (Optional) : Heat coconut oil and add red chilli and curry leaves. fry a little and add the seasoning

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup bengal gram
- 1 cup chow chow chopped
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 dry red chilly
- 1 spring curry leaves
- 6-7 nos small onions finely chopped
- 3-4 nos garlic cloves finely chopped
- 1 medium sized tomato finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 - 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp sambar powder optional
Instructions
- Cook Kadala paruppu(Bengal gram) until mushy and keep it aside. Cut chow chow into cubes and keep it aside
- Heat Oil in Cooker, add mustard seeds and let it splutter.
- Add cumin seeds, Red chilli, curry leaves, Chopped small onions, and Chopped garlic. Saute well and once onions turn pink, add tomatoes and saute well.
- Add chow chow & cooked dal. Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, salt and sambar powder
- Add Little water and cook it to 3-4 whistles
- Open it and smash well. Seasoning (Optional) : Heat coconut oil and add red chilli and curry leaves. fry a little and add the seasoning to the curry
