Chow Chow kootu is easy to prepare, healthy and tasty recipe for rice. There is one more version of chow chow kootu which is much like this recipe but with little variation.

Directions for chow chow kootu:

Chop Chow chow to small cubes and cook them with turmeric powder, salt, Moong dal and water to 2 whistle. Add only enough water for the vegetable to cook because kootu has to be thick and not runny.

To grind:

Grind grated Coconut, cumin seeds, raw rice and green chilli to a fine paste and add to the cooked chow chow. Mix well and give it a boil until the raw smell of coconut and rice goes off.

Seasoning:

While its boiling, Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, put in curry leaves, red chilli and asafoetida. Add this seasoning to the chow chow curry.

serve hot!

Chow Chow kootu

Ingredients

  • 1 big sized chow chow chopped to small pieces
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup moong dal

To grind

  • 2 nos green chillies
  • 1 tsp raw rice
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp grated coconut

For seasoning

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • 1 dry red chilli broken into half
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida

Instructions

  • Chop Chow chow to small cubes and cook them with turmeric powder, salt, Moong dal and water to 2 whistle

  • Grind grated Coconut, cumin seeds, raw rice and green chilli to a fine paste and add to the cooked chow chow. Mix well and give it a boil.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, add in curry leaves, red chilli and asafoetida. Add this seasoning to the chow chow curry. serve hot!
