Agathipoo porial or stir fry with peanuts. Agathi poo is nothing but flowers from august tree or sesbania grandiflora. We might have often heard of Agathi keerai. This is flower of the plant and rich source of calcium. Also a very good body coolant. Unlike the leaves, flowers taste good with numerous health benefits. This recipe is with Agathi Poo(August tree flowers) and peanuts.
This is the agathipoo or sesbania flowers:
Directions:
- Heat oil, splutter mustard seeds, urad dal and channa dal.
- Add chopped onions and fry until it turns pink.
- Put in chopped agathi flowers, turmeric powder, chilly powder and salt.
- Mix well and let it cook for a minute or two. Need not add water as the flower lets out water. Add cooked peanuts to it. We add peanuts to it to bring in some crunchiness to the stir fry. You can also roughly grind them if you do not want to add them whole. But, adding peanuts are optional and as per your preference of taste.
- Cook for another minute or two again keeping it open. Sprinkle water only if necessary. Finally add grated coconut. Stir well and serve!
Crushed Garlic and cumin seeds can also be added to this to avoid any bloating. Flowers gets cooked fast at the maximum by 10 minutes. So keep tasting in between to check if its done. Water need not be added as the flower tends to leave out water. Also note that It starts changing color from bright red as soon you start cooking.

- 2 Tbsp Peanuts Boiled
- 1 No Onion Finely chopped
- 1 Tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 Tsp Urad dhal split
- 1 Tsp Channa dal
- 1 Tsp turmeric powdder
- 1 Tsp chilli powder
- To tastw Salt
- 2 Tbsp Grated coconut
